Meet the Team

  • Paul Smith

    COMPANY DIRECTOR

    Paul Smith is founder and director of Windermere Holdings. Paul’s career in property development began in 1987 when he started working in the corporate sector specialising in retail centre management and development. He grew up on a farm in the Waikato and attended Massey University where he gained a Bachelor of Business Studies.

    Paul leads, secures and plans the acquisition process at Windermere Holdings. Paul’s radar is never switched off and his work is always guided by a critical question. “Will this be a worthwhile and safe investment for everyone?” Paul continually seeks to grow an in-depth understanding of the world around him. He’s particularly interested in staying up-to-date with the most current drivers of human behaviour, in the context of commercial retail property.

  • Hugh Lambie

    INVESTMENT AND DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

    Hugh Lambie joined Windermere in 2006 after a successful banking career. Before joining the team, Hugh worked at BNZ in Auckland, HBSC in London and KPMG in Sydney. Hugh holds an Economics and Finance Degree from Massey University and an MBA from Edinburgh University.

    Hugh brings strong commercial expertise to the table and works across all areas of the business. From finding tenants, negotiating land acquisitions, construction contracts and management to active property and asset administration. Through his own experience trading and selling commercial businesses, Hugh has an excellent understanding, from a tenants point of view, of the day-to-day challenges of retail trading.

    His combined understanding of commercial business development, from a tenant and landlord perspective, has enabled Windermere to successfully complete complex transactions requiring out of the box thinking, negotiation and problem solving.

  • Matt Holton

    DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

    Matt Holton is Windermere’s Development Manager. He specialises in conceptualising and delivering large-scale mixed-use retail and office development projects. Matt holds a Bachelor of Property and is a qualified MRICS practitioner.

    With over ten years experience, Matt has worked on some exciting national and international development projects. Much of Matt’s experience was gained overseas. Before joining Windermere Holdings, Matt worked for several world-class consultancy and development organisations, including Gardiner & Theobald and Lendlease.

    Matt joined Windermere upon returning to New Zealand in 2018. Since then, Matt’s work has been focused on sourcing and delivering new investment opportunities. Matt was instrumental in delivering the Ministry of Education building in Invercargill, the McLennan Park Convenience Retail Centre and the Waipapa Business Park, and he has many more pipeline projects underway.

  • Frank Rientjes

    CONTRACTS MANAGER AND QS

    Frank has been with Windermere since 2010. He works across all Windermere’s refurbishments and developments. Frank's extensive experience in the industry has resulted in an exceptional accumulation of expertise and industry specific knowledge.

    In the construction environment, Frank is an excellent judge of people, teams and their overall operational efficiency. He has an acute sense of when things are going well, and when to flag budget vulnerabilities and engage in risk assessment.

  • Mandy Matheson

    ADMINISTRATION MANAGER

    Mandy joined the Windermere team in November 2021 and is responsible for the administration duties generated by Windermere’s activities.This covers many elements including payroll, accounts, banking and tax and GST administration and general property administration.Mandy thoroughly enjoys this challenging and dynamic role of assisting the team and gaining new knowledge of the business and the industry on a daily basis.

    Mandy lives in Hunua and is married to Alan and has two adult children. A very keen traveller who loves spending time with her family and friends.
